Within the past few days, a person who is very special and deeply loved sent this message to me and I am taking the liberty of restating it for the purposes of this blog. It’s an extremely powerful story and one worth sharing.
Imagine for a moment that you are the recipient of a special bank account. It belongs specifically and only to you. Every morning, $86,400 is deposited into this account. But there are exact conditions attached.
Everything that you don’t spend each day will be taken from you.
You cannot transfer the money into another account. It must only be spent.
Every morning, the bank opens your account with another $86,400 for that day.
The bank has the ability to end the game without notice; it can say “Game Over!”
It can then close the account and you will not receive a new one.
So far, this sounds like a great idea, however unbelievable. But it’s true about you and your life, every day. Each day when you awake, you are given 86,400 seconds that belong only to you. You can’t save them, transfer them, or gift them. And at any minute, you may have your account closed, with no possibility of another one.
This is a beautiful story/metaphor. As someone who has wasted too many of the 86,400 seconds of each day that I have been given, I am also fully aware of the endless actions that I can take with any of them.
The email closed with one more warning – never complain about growing old. Many never have that opportunity. Shalom.
